CLARION – To help make it easier for local residents to better protect their personal and financial information, Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong/Forest) will hold an Identity Theft and Shredder Event, at no charge, on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9-11 a.m.

“Thieves always seem to be one step ahead of us in trying to obtain our personal information for fraudulent use, and that’s why it is so important to be as proactive as possible in keeping this data out of their hands,” Oberlander said. “To help prevent these incidents, I host an ID Theft and Shredder Event each year so that residents have a safe and secure way of disposing paperwork that contains sensitive information.”

As part of the event, an industrial shredder truck will be set up in her district office parking lot at 160 S. Second St. in Clarion. Also available will be a variety of handouts and printed materials on ways residents can protect their personal information from falling into the wrong hands.

Documents that are encouraged to be shredded include those with credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, medical information and bank account information.

Residents are asked to bring just papers and documents in loose form. Magazines and books will not be accepted.

“I am hopeful that residents will take advantage of this free service,” Oberlander added. “The more we can keep private information out of the wrong hands, the better, and we can help protect people’s good names.”

More information about the event is available on her website at RepOberlander.com.
